Introducing Sukhwinder Singh: Soil Health Coordinator
Since July 2022, Sukhwinder Singh has been working as Alberta Land Institute’s Soil Health Coordinator. He is investigating the current state of soil health policies and farming practices in Alberta. Sukhwinder has a background in agricultural sustainability, specifically focused on soil health, water management, and land use. He belongs to a farming family in Punjab (India), and so growing up on a farm, he developed a strong passion for farming, crops, soil, and water.
As Soil Health Coordinator, Sukhwinder is examining Alberta’s agricultural systems, understanding farmers’ perspectives of soil health, connecting with various stakeholder groups, and exploring the gaps between soil health policies and practices on the ground.
At ALI, we have been working towards understanding what sustainable agriculture efforts are occurring in Alberta and conduct research that will highlight ways in which the current regulatory and policy environment facilitates or hinders sustainable agriculture practices in Alberta.
